Les Armes miraculeuses d'Aimé Césaire
Les Armes miraculeuses is one of the most important books by Aimé Césaire, a political figure of Martinique and one of the most important poetic voices of the 20th century. He has created the concept of “négritude” and which becomes very emblematic. In this 1946 collection, he creates his own language following the path he had opened previously with Le Cahier d’un retour au pays natal, at the doorstep of World War 2. This book is very aware of crossroads and redefines poetic genres. In an upheaval of metaphors, between tragedy and humor, Césaire is defining, behind the literary concerns, an ethic of responsibility which is facing the violence of the time. Aimé Césaire died on 17 April 2008.
